Description

This unique stone cottage is located on the Williams River on "Boraning", a 3000 acre bio-dynamic organic farm 17 kms west of Williams. "Boraning" is home to the Newton-Wordsworth family. It has been farmed using bio-dynamic organic methods for over 25 years. The Newton-Wordsworth Family was awarded The Sustainability Award in the Western Australian Community and Regional Awards in 2012.

The cottage was built as one of two garrisons for soldiers on the original track between Swan River Colony (Perth) and King George's Sound (Albany). It was located near a ford on the Williams River, which can still be seen today. The original settlement was known as "Williamsburgh". Later when the Albany Highway was rerouted the settlement moved to the town of Williams, but the cottage remains as the oldest buiding in the area, and an important piece of Western Australian history.

Near the Cottage there is also a horse training centre, as The Newton-Wordsworth Family breed and train horses for the Olympic Sport of Eventing and general riding. Visitors can meet the horses, watch them being trained, and horse riding experiences/lessons on a quiet horse in an enclosed area are available by appointment.

Boraning is a working bio-dynamic/organic farm with cattle, sheep, horses, haymaking, cropping, and orchards including olives, pistachios, figs and citrus, so varying activities are going on year round, depending on the season. It is also the home of international singer songwriter Kelly Newton-Wordsworth and the music production company Newtone Productions. Boraning is set in rolling hills on the eastern foothills of the Darling Scarp, and is superb land for walks, picnics, swims in the lake, and relaxing around the fire in the Cottage or on the verandah. The aboriginal placename for this area was "Boraning" and it remains this today. An aboriginal elder said this name means "place of spiritual wisdom".

The Newton-Wordsworth Family invite you to come and experience "Boraning".

Cancelation Policy

We require a deposit with all bookings. The deposit is usually the value of one night's accommodation. This may be paid by credit card (master or visa), cheque or direct deposit into our bank account. The balance should be paid on arrival. Bookings are secured when the deposit is received and cleared.

Remember that when we hold the cottage for you and you decide to cancel the booking, it deprives other families of a holiday and it deprives us of our income. Please make sure you have planned carefully before committing yourself to a booking. Please understand that:

  1. In the case of a cancellation we will refund your deposit immediately if the cancellation was made 30 days prior to the booking.

  2. When a cancellation is made less than a month but more than a week before the date of arrival we will refund the deposit ONLY when the cottage is re-booked for the period of the original booking.

  3. There will be NO REFUND of the deposit if the booking is cancelled less than 7 days prior to the date of the booking.>

  4. Bookings are charged according to the number of days booked and the number of people. These two factors determine the daily tariff. If you decide to leave the farm a day or more before the end of the booking, you MUST PAY THE FULL price of the booking.

  5. If you arrive after the commencement of the reservation, you must pay the full price of the proposed stay.

  6. If the deposit has not been received by the due date we may cancel the booking without notice. In most cases we try to contact the clients concerned and make sure the reservation is not wanted. It is the client's responsibility to make sure that the deposit arrives on time.

The cottage does not include hair dryer, shampoo or condition.

  7. We can accommodate pets (including horses) but pets should only be brought by arrangement.
